Morphological Characteristics

Single-celled, of medium-large dimensions. The cell is usually seen in valve view, and thus appears with broad valves, panduriform, with rounded or pointed poles, more rarely seen in girdle view. The valve surface is decorated with small areolae from the one margin of the cell to the other. In the cytoplasm there are two chloroplasts located at the poles of the cell.

 

Distribution

This genus is planktonic, benthonic and marine.
