The purpose of this project activity is to make available to the various components of the research team, in a centralized manner, all data for sampling in recent years, in particular those related to the taxonomic classification of the samples and those relating to the measures carried out on the samples.
This activity is divided into 3 phases:
- Extension of the database: the relational database of the project has been extended in order to store:
- sampling data;
- data relating to the pre-existing taxonomic storage system, that is the identifying internal used by the image analysis system, so as to enable the mapping between the atlas species and the species present in the archive of the image analysis system;
- the data relating to the transformations required to apply the formulas for the calculation of area, biovolume, etc. to the raw data that are obtained in output from the image analysis system and that are related to the individual samples.
- Populating the Database: the ICT Group implemented a series of automated procedures to load data for each of the three categories described above. Data loading substantially involves the extraction of data from a series of excel spreadsheets having a predetermined structure.
- User Interface Implelemtation: the ICT Group implemented a web user interface to allow users to query the database. Users can select a subset of lagoons and a subset of measures among those available. The elaboration process usually takes few minutes and returns output to the user in an excel file with a list of found samples and measures calculated in real time on each sample.
