Morphological Characteristics

Solitary cells or colonies. In girdle view, The cell is rectangular or square. The thin bristles (0.2-0.5µm thick) sprout from the extremity of the cell, initially parallel to the pervalvar axis and subsequently changing direction. They are slightly undulating, and can be up to 10 times longer than the cell. The valves are elliptic, flat or slightly concave, with an annulus on the surface. On the mantle are radial ribs. The rimoportula is absent.
