- Cryptomonas rostratiformis : Skuja (1956)
- Cryptomonas rostrata : O.V.Troitzkaja (1922)
- Cryptomonas reflexa : M.Marsson, Skuja (1939)
- Cryptomonas lilloensis : Kufferath (1954), W.Conrad
Sigmoid-shaped cells with a characteristic recurved posterior, anterior rostrate. The furrow is curved slightly toward the left, and the vestibular ligule is pointed and attached to the left side of the vestibulum. Cells contain two chloroplasts, two pyrenoids and nucleomorphs, the later are located posterior to the pyrenoids and anterior to the nucleus.
- Cell Length: from 20 to 65 µm
- Cell Width: from 10 to 26 µm
- Thickness: from 10 to 26 µm
Common in temperate lakes, reservoirs, and streams; in fresh and brackish waters.
