Morphological Characteristics

Cells eight-angled, usually twisted at the isthmus, the median constriction is shallow. Sinus slightly cut. Semicells crosswise oblong or cup-shaped triangle with straight or slightly bent cap and slightly convex sides. Uppermost angles elongated into the long slender divergent 4-5 undulate processes. From the top cells spindle-shaped, ovate or tri- quadrangular with elongated ends to the processes. The cell wall smooth.
