The cell is thecate, solitary, from small to medium dimensions, from circular to oval in shape. The cell surface is covered in a theca that can be decorated with pores. the apical plate 1’ is narrow and a smaller intercalary plate is found to the left. The circular cingulum divides the cell into two equal parts: the epitheca and hypotheca. Absent choloplasts.
- Cell Diameter: from 28 to 60 µm
Cosmopolitan.
Distribution: as Diplopsalis lenticula f. minor: Europe: Spain (Alvárez Cobelas, 1984).
As Zygabikodinium lenticulatum: Europe: Britain (Parke & Dixon, 1976), Norway (Naustvoll, 2001); Atlantic Islands: Canary Islands (Gil-Rodríguez et al., 2003).
