• Neoceratium pentagonum: (Cleve) F.Gómez, D.Moreira e P.López-Garcia (2010)

Cell is thecate, of large dimensions. The body of the cell is pentagonal. The epitheca is prolonged into a straight apical horn, which can be short or long. The hypotheca is prolonged into two short and almost parallel antapical horns. The surface has decorations in relief. The cell contains numerous chloroplasts.

 Cosmopolitan, found in warm-temperate to tropical waters.

Distribution: as Ceratium pentagonum: Europe: Great Britain (Parke & Dixon, 1976), Croatia (Vilicic et al., 2009), Ireland(McDermott & Raine 2006), Romania (Caraus, 2002); Atlantic Islands: Canary Islands (Gil-Rodríguez et al., 2003); Antarctic and the subantarctic islands: Antarctica (McMinn & Scott, 2005).
