Morphological Characteristics

Solitary. In valve view the frustule appears elongated, broadening slightly at the extremities and in the central area. The pseudoraphe cannot be distinguished. In the narrowest part of the valves a continuous hyaline line that becomes a dashed line at the extremities and in the central part of the valve is observed.  There are areolae scattered over the valve surface.

Distribution

Especially common in tropical and subtropical waters but also occasionally found in temperate waters.

Notes

Due to its elongated shape and benthic lifestyle, this genus grows attached to solid substrates.

Species with flat valves can be calculated as cylinders.

Toxicity:

Not reported.

Resistence Stages:

Not reported.
