- Synedra undulata: (J.W. Bailey) Gregory (1857)
Solitary. In valve view the frustule appears elongated with undulating margins, broadening slightly at the extremities and in the central area. The pseudoraphe cannot be distinguished. In the narrowest part of the valves a continuous hyaline line that becomes a dashed line at the extremities and in the central part of the valve is observed. There are areolae scattered over the valve surface.

- Width at the centre of the cell: from 8 to 13 µm
- Width at the extremity of the cell: from 5 to 6 µm
- Striae (apex) in 10µm: from 10 to 18 n°
A common species especially in tropical and subtropical waters but occasionally also found in temperate waters.
Distribution: as Toxarium undulatum.Atlantic Ocean: Canary Islands (Gil-Rodríguez et al., 2003); North America: Nova Scotia (Kim, Garbary and McLachlan, 2004).
As Synedra undulata. Europe: Romania (Caraus, 2002), Spain (Varela, 1982).
