Morphological Characteristics

In girdle view the cells appear rectangular in shape. In valve view they are asymmetrical along the apical axis. The dorsal margin is generally more or less convex while the ventral margin is straight or sometimes concave. The raphe is short and thin.

Marine and brackish environments.

Notes

This genus includes about 200 species, which can reach 150µm in length
