Species details
Solitary or joined at the centre of the valve by a mucilaginous cushion. Pairs or triplets of cells joined at the cingulum are distinctly observed. In girdle view the valves appear cylindrical. There are labiate processes along the edge of the mantle forming a ring of rimoportulae. Along the cell wall there are numerous small chloroplasts.

This specie is very variable in shape. Often it resembles more a cylinder with 2 half spheres or a sphere.
