Morphological Characteristics

Colonies more or less irregular-spherical, usually composed of small groups of cells cells grouped together (subcolonies), embedded in wide, fine, homogeneous, colourless, diffluent gelatinous envelopes, sometimes joined together; in old stages the subcolonies disintegrate into homogeneous and amorphous mass of cells, in which sometimes remain small groups of aggregated cells. Cells spherical.

  • Cell Diameter: from 2 to 3.2 µm
Distribution

Commonly in temperate zones, in eutrophic waters, up to northern regions.

Distribution:  Australia and New Zealand: Queensland (Bostock & Holland 2010).

 

Notes

Can form water blooms.

Toxic.

Resistence Stages:

Toxic.
