Morphological Characteristics

Colony is flat–circular (sometimes irregularly subcircular), consisting of a single platelike layer of 4-64 (128) cells, intercellular space absent and not perforated. Inner cells tetragonal to hexagonal, concaved at outer side; marginal cells with two long horn-like lobes, hyaline at the ends; cell wall regularly granulated. The chloroplast is parietal and has one pyrenoid.
