Cell is thecate, of large dimensions, but with a small body. The epitheca is prolonged into a long apical horn, while the two antapical horns curve upwards to point in the same direction as the apical horn.
- Cell Width: from 37 to 60 µm
Cosmopolitan, found in coastal and oceanic waters, typical of temperate, warm and tropical waters.
Distribution: as Ceratium trichoceros. Europe: Croatia (Vilicic et al. 2009), Ireland (McDermott & Raine 2006); Atlantic Islands: Canary Islands (Gil-Rodríguez et al. 2003).
