The cells are solitary or joined in colonies. In valve view the frustule has a lanceolate shape with rounded ends. The central raphe is straight and thin. Near the distal parts of the cell the ends of the raphe curve towards each other. There is a central nodule. The valve surface is covered in striae running from the raphe to the edges.
