Morphological Characteristics

The coenobia are (particularly the older) slightly elongated, usually with a long rectangular opening in the middle of the cenobium, sometimes with completely grown together cells. Cells triangular to trapezoidal, on the outer side gibbous, in the middle of cenobium tapering conically. Cell wall very smooth, without warts or bristles. The chloroplast is parietal with a pyrenoid.
