- Staurogenia fenestrata: Schmidle
The coenobium is rhomboidal, with a relatively large internal space, ~ 10 across, sometimes forming irregularly shaped multiple colonies. Cells trapezoid, straight or slightly curved on outermost side.

- Cell Width: from 1.8 to 6 µm
- Diameter of coenobium: from 8 to 14 µm
Freshwater species, probably cosmopolitan.
Distribution: Europe: Britain (Whitton et al. 2003), Romania (Caraus 2012), Spain (Cambra Sánchez, Álvarez Cobelas & Aboal Sanjurjo 1998). South America: Brazil (Menezes 2010). Asia: China (Hu & Wei 2006). Australia and New Zealand: New Zealand (Broady et al. 2012).
