Species details
- Rhizosolenia stolterfothii : Peragallo
- Eucampia striata : Stolterfoth (1897)
Cells joined in long curved or spiral colonies, more rarely observed as a single cell. In girdle view the valves appear cylindrical with clearly distinct cingular bands. The valves are flat with rounded edges. From the valvar margin emerges a thick dorsal spine, which enters a depression in the adjacent valve, thereby joining two cells. Numerous small elliptical chloroplasts are dispersed throughout the cell.
- Pervalvar Axis: over 250 µm
- Cell Diameter: from 6 to 45 µm
Cosmopolitan.
Distribution: Europe: Croatia (Vilicic et al., 2009); Atlantic Ocean: Canary Islands (Gil-Rodríguez et al., 2003); North America: Nova Scotia (Kim, Garbary and McLachlan, 2004).
