Morphological Characteristics

Solitary, thecate,  globular in shape. The cell surface is more or less reticulate. The descendent cingulum, running in a deep groove, divides the body of the cell into two roughly equal parts, the conical epitheca, often with slightly undulating margins, and the hypotheca with 2 or 3 spines short thick on the antapex, sometimes absent. The longitudinal sulcus stretches from the apex to the antapex.

Coastal waters.

Distribution: Europe: Croatia (Vilicic et al. 2009), Romania (Caraus, 2002); Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic islands: Antarctica (McMinn & Scott, 2005).
