Synonyms
  • Coscinodiscus normanii: Gregory ex Greville (1859)
Morphological Characteristics

Cells drum shaped and concentrically waved, where one shell in the middle is concave, another in the middle is convex. The valves are with big polygonal areolae (in LM appears round), which are arranged in radial rows. In the mantel the areolae are fine.

Morphological Data
Distinctive morphometric characters
  • Cell Diameter: from 30 to 110 µm
  • Areolae in 10µm: from 8 to 12 n°
  • Ratio of mantel height to diameter: from 0.4 to 1
  • Areolae rows in 10 µm: from 10 to 13 n°
Distribution
In eutrophicated fresh and brackish waters. Baltic sea.

Distribution: Europe: Britain (Whitton et al. 2003), Netherlands (Dijkman & Kromkamp 2007), Romania (Caraus 2012), Spain (Pérez, Maidana & Comas 2009).
